{Senior} : Morgan

2 New locations in one shoot, KILLER!!! Morgan wanted to head out to McCloud Nature Park for her shoot. We laughed a lot and fought off all the mosquitoes while in the woods, frolicked in a meadow of flowers n' weeds and then waded in a creek!!! We then drove a little to North Salem and walked around the town. Oh man,... jumping over a tin tub in the middle of a street became portrait worthy!! Sometimes, I love the reactions of people when we tell them to stand in a certain spot and they are like "uhm....ok" and then they just totally trust that whatever I see through my eyes will be something cool. Thanks Morgan and her mom :)

We headed to the IMA for Leanne's pics. One of the coolest things about Leanne's session was that she had a Scout, think Girl Scouts, from Britain that was staying with her and we all got to listen to her accent which was just plain awesome! We also got to explore the brand new 100 Acres part of the IMA, which hasn't ...been open very long. She brought some cool props like her headphones and guitar and we just chilled during her shoot. Thanks Leanne, Audrey, and Dan!!! and Jess for your styling help!

This night was horribly humid!! Kels rocked it though as we shot well into the darkness of the night til' around 10:00!! This shoot involved dodging cars while going over railroad tracks, back alley shots!, using our awesomely amazing surroundings which included an A/C unit, and ended up eating pizza from Pizza King under the lights of Leslie's car and watching "curb squirrels" do their thang! Thanks so much to Leslie and Kelsey for allowing us to take your senior pics!! I (Matt) can't believe that you're a senior. I remember you as a little kid when I started dating Lenz and you were like 6 and still wearing your hair like a lil' mushrooom top! We love you Kelsey!

We've known Stephanie for a long time and we're totally honored to be able to shoot her senior pics. We headed to Danville for our shoot around the square and down to Ellis Park for a few also. Her boyfriend also accompanied us on the shoot. So inbetween outfit changes, he and I would get in lil' mini-shoots. It was so fun. I loved hanging out with you guys. Plus, her grandpa, brought along his old car, which is all original by the way, for some shots also! Enjoy.

We headed up to Minnesota to chill with Buck and Tiffany. Lenz and Tiffany have known each other forever and it was great to get to hang out with them. Thanks so much for letting us capture your family! and for the bed for the week! One of the most relaxing weeks of my life.

Lindsay and I headed to the campus of DePauw University, in Greencastle to grab a couple of shots of Lindsay's cousin Brittany and her fiance James. We then headed to the square in town for some additional stuff. It was pretty hot that day and I remember sweating pretty bad. If you know me pretty well, you know that I would rather the temp be around 62 degrees and prefer snow over sun anyday. I can't stand this hot n' humid stuff. The other day I had my IU hat turned around backwards, which I normally don't do that at all unless it's really hot out. Lenz says to me while we were outside. "I think you look cute with your hat backwards." So I'm feeling all gushy inside, and then I precede to tell her that I wear my hat backwards because it soaks up the sweat faster than the bill does when worn properly. It keeps all the sweat out of my eyes. She then replied, "Never mind." We laughed....or I did I guess. :) Anyway, we are totally excited to shoot their wedding later this year and we had a lot of fun hanging out that hot humid night. Here's our favorite's from the shoot.

We found out that James.....is not the jumping kind. It was so fun watching him jump though! Oh the laughs!

This is Lindsay's fave. I think what I like most is the "candidness" of it. It's more of a real moment.

I love this pic of Brittany! I think it's the hair, not sure, I can't put my finger on why I like it...I just do. Plus the bonus is that James is just chillin' in the background.

My Cubbies are not doing so hot.....like that's new news?!

I like this one too! Simple. Negative Space.

You never have any idea what we will ask you to do on a shoot and below is proof. You also should have seen the look that James gave me when I asked him to stand up on this concrete pole. I don't think he was ready for the randomness that I seem to do at times. :)

Meet Brooke - We headed up to the IMA to chill with Brooke for a while. Funny Story!!! The whole time we were there, there was a "moving play" (I guess) going on. There was about 7-10 characters and they were doing a whole play thing with costumes and everything and they just kept following us to the spots we were in. We laughed the whole time, because it was just a little odd. But the performance was good. Here's Brooke...

We met up with Ashley at McCormick's Creek and we had fun dodging oncoming traffic. Hanging with a snake and walking up and down hills. Total fun and it was beautiful with the leaves in the fall.

Meet Tyler - I was so pumped when Tyler asked me to do his senior pix. I have known Tyler for a while though basketball and have always enjoyed his enthusiasm and willingness to always want to get better. Another thing that really impressed me about Tyler is that he is a 3 sport athlete. You don't see that very often anymore. Also, Tyler has had to sit out his entire Senior year of sports because he had to have surgery on both of his feet at different times. Not once did I hear him complain to others or to me about his surgeries taking his mobility (well not totally true, he uses his scooter pretty well) and he has fought through without making excuses or feeling sorry for himself. Good Luck Tyler!

We snagged these amazing family pics a couple of weeks ago. I cannot begin to tell you how blessed we are to take pictures of fantabulous families. We didn't stop laughing pretty much the entire time and what I took away from this shoot was something that I can never forget...family love is incredibly strong, infectious, and a whole different kind of love in itself. I'm still blown away at the love that came from this family that was shown to us. There was a few times during this shoot that I just stopped and took in what it meant to just be standing and watching them interact with each other. !!! Thanks so much guys! Ryan and Lauren {Married}

So I (Matt) known Lauren for 2 years now as we trudged our way through the grueling elementary education blocks at IUPUI. If you've been through them, you understand. Among some things that we've done together is been a part of a reader's theater, some skits, lots of heavy, heavy reading, student teaching right next to each other's rooms, and finally we got to capture her and Ryan's amazing wedding day. The wedding and reception was held at St. Monica's in Indy. Lauren's sisters/bridesmaids and Ryan's groomsmen were up for anything that we wanted to do and that rocked like no other. The other day I was talking to a couple of guys I used to coach who are in college now and playing sports about how they have made a lot of friends on their respective teams. I told them that in the end after everything is over with, the only thing that will stay with you are the relationships. No matter what accomplishments in the sport that they have, nothing can compare to the love and friendship that people have for others. That's what you will remember. So, that's kind of how I feel about my Block Buddies. I'm going to forget anything that probably came from a book, but I will never forget any of you or the impact that you had on my life.

Also, you know I'm pretty much an artsy guy, if any of you are thinking about getting some ink done and need an amazing tattoo artist: Ryan is your man. Hit him up.

Thanks again Ryan and Lauren for the special token or your appreciation. :) That was an amazing blessing. I hope that you enjoy these! Leave a comment if you do too!

So, I (Matt) have known Alannah a long time. When I was a senior she was in my 4th grade cadet teaching class. So when her mom gave us the amazing opportunity to shoot her senior portraits it made me feel really old :) We shot at an amazing location...... and Alannah was up for anything, including climbing a ginormous windmill!!! This shoot was totally fun and relaxing and it was just cool to be able to hang out. And while we were hanging out Alannah totally rocked these photos!!! Thanks so much and good luck on your final year of HS. Oh, and I could not decide my top faves, so there's a bunch.

I'll start this off by saying how cool it was to shoot this wedding. Interesting tidbit about Jennifer... we grew up next door to each other in the throbbing metropolis of Coatesville, IN. So when her and Josh asked us to share in their wedding day, I was so pumped. Plus, one of Lindsay's brothers (Ryan) and his wife (Caitlin) were in the wedding. Oh! and if you ever need your hair did fo' yo' weddin' call Caitlin, and her entourage of sisters, because they are fantabulous!!!!!! Then to top it all off, we got to work a second time with the amazing, talented videographer Jet Kaiser of Kaiser Productions. Here's a link to Josh and Jennifer's Trailer that he shot. If you're getting married, get Kaiser Productions to document it. You won't be disappointed!
The ceremony was at Hazelwood Christian Church and the reception was at Martha's Orchard.

The guys all brought Kleenex with them for this one. Josh had no idea! Amazing plan. If you have shots in mind like this, please do them. Don't hesitate to be amazing!

Today, my brother Tyler decided to stop by with two of his friends on their 4-wheelers. Not a big deal. Except that I didn't recognize any of them at them because of all the mud. I can't imagine how cold they were. At one time, Eric untied his boot and took it off and turned it upside down and water just poured out of it. As we got our of our car at the amazing property of Ron's his son came up to me and asked if we do aerial photography? I said I have never done anything like that before and that prompts him to say, "Wanna go?" I was a little leery at first, then I told Lindsay, "I love you." and I was off. It was a pretty tight fit in the plane but man it was fun. Thanks so much, Jeff! Definitely one of the coolest things I have ever done. Onto the wedding. It was probably one of the prettiest weddings that I have ever seen! Congrats to Ron and Patti and thanks so much for letting us share in your day! Okay, I have to apologize if you were on here tonight because I was making some changes and was doing a change and then saving, and changing, and saving and repeating the process. So... this is the new blog layout. I got so tired of having just the plain layout so I decided to make my own. This was my first time really messing with some html code and that made it really scary but I finally figured out what I needed to do. I designed so many things and this was finally the one I settled on. But since I can design everything myself, it will probably change every now and then. Let me know what you think by voting in the poll.

Off-Camera Flash Self-Portraits

Last night I was playing around with some off camera flash and for some reason I ended up taking a bunch of self-portraits of myself with different hats on. The Red Sox (my American League team) has pretty much seen better days. I wore it every day for three years. Let's just say it has a certain odor and oily touch to it. It's been through a lot. The crochet lookin' one is currently my winter hat. It keeps me warm although it makes me look like a girl. The yellow one is my grandpa's hat. I have had it since my elementary days. I usually wear it when I mow the yard, which is about once a month. Coco dislikes me for doing this to her as she has to hop in the yard because she can't really walk through the jungle. The one with the ear flaps is... just cool. I wear it when it's so cold your snot freezes inside your nose. (that's my cold face) And the last one is the Cubbies (my National League team) hat. Nick, my brother, has really turned me on to them. Lenz and I attended a game at Wrigley last year and it was probably one of the best sports memories I will ever have.

I am very thankful and grateful for all of their bravery, courage, and commitment to this country. I know if it wasn't for them I wouldn't be enjoying the freedoms that I have now. I have been playing with textures a little bit lately (I kind of use them at work to apply distress effects to t-shirts, but never really thought of using them on photos) and this is what I came up with. The texture is from some rust on a old, old gas pump. And I have made a border that all the pics will have on them from now on. I like it, but yet to see if I will keep it this way.

I was walking out of the house to go the the ECD Showcase last Friday... and there it is, right off the porch. I was told by a neighbor that if you run at it, it will run away. Well... that did not work. He stood his ground and he came closer to me. Coco was barking like no other and if that turkey would have attacked me... Coco would have ran for her life.

Coco's Haircut

Coco Got her hair cut the other day at PetAgree, where I think they do a great job. Then we splurged at Starbucks and the drive-thru people asked if we would like a pup cup. The first thing we asked was "What is a pup cup?" which is a little cup of whip cream for dogs. The second question we asked was "How much is a pup cup?" they replied, "Free." We got one for her. She absolutely loved it and was shaking wanting more. So it's whip cream all over her mouth and I was holding the cup so she just kept begging for some more. Once we got home I had to clean her up because all the cream had hardened. We probably won't be getting anymore pup cups. It was very warm, so we sat outside in the grass to waste some time.

She loves licking up people's noses!

Butler vs Cleveland State

I won tickets from XL950 AM to go to the Horizon League championship at historic Hinkle Fieldhouse. Lindsay and I went. I believe it was her first college basketball game. We had lots of fun. Saw a friend, past teammate, and coaching buddy there, which was sweet. And to top it all off, they won. And then they got snubbed in the Brackets. I just hope they prove everyone wrong about that 7 seed. I love watching Butler basketball as they share the ball, communicate like no other, and don't care who gets the credit. They play the right way!
